The Forever Wave, a radio play
by Nicole Gluckstern
We’d love to draw your attention to a fascinating new radio play from our friend Nicole Gluckstern.
You may have seen her work when we hosted the politically irreverent INCIVILTY SF at our original TLC 65 Capp SF location. Or maybe you’ve read her work as a journalist (SF Bay Guardian, KQED, SUBSTRATE ARTS), or seen a theater production she’s produced or publicized in the SF Bay Area over the last 20 plus years (The Marsh, EXIT Theater).
She’s an incredibly creative person with a wide body of work. The Forever Wave is something that will stay with you and inspire action.
The Forever Wave, is loosely adapted from and inspired by Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood. Created via a completely remote process with a dozen of the Bay Area’s best actors, and three amazing sound folk, this work will tour community radio stations and streams in March and April, and be free to access, fully remotely, throughout its run.
Set in a drowned Bay Area, circa 2070, The Forever Wave imagines the survivors of this water-logged world as occupying the tops of hills, individual islands jutting up from a climate-change induced tide that rolled in one day and never rolled out.
Combining geography, geology, climate science, Bay Area history, and a diverse collection of voices, The Forever Wave is an exploration of a what-if future that seems ever more likely every year we fail to address the impacts of climate change and economic inequality in our current timeline.
What communities will emerge in a future where our systems have collapsed and our “normal” is a historical relic? What can the hilltop-dwellers of the future teach us about ourselves in the now? And what are the things we can start building in order to avoid their fate?
While this work will be completely free to access, it was not free to produce! So if you’re able to include a donation as part of your listening experience all donations will be gratefully accepted.
The “ticket” link for donations and the broadcast schedule is here (more dates will be added soon!): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/
