Brian Belknap’s Front Porch w/ Mike Coykendall (PDX) and Sarah Bethe Nelson

Brian Belknap’s Front Porch returns to its longtime home at The Lost Church with some of the finest songwriters from the Bay Area and beyond. Veteran songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Coykendall is known for working with notable artists such as M. Ward, Blitzen Trapper, She & Him, among others. Sarah Bethe Nelson’s music is like a later Townes Van Zandt self-deprecation jolted through the afterglow of Stoned And Dethroned horizon-watching.

Owen Adair Kelley and In-Sides

Owen Adair Kelley’s idiosyncratic indie pop music offers melancholy in one hand and rose colored spectacles in the other, encasing you in a moody yet buoyant pleasure dome.  In-Sides craft a sound steeped in shoegaze and psych-pop, drawing on themes of introspection, isolation, and self-searching.

David Luning & Ben Dubin with Lia Rose

David Luning’s music is exuberant and upbeat Americana with a dark, gritty vibe. Lia Rose’s songs are intensely honest and at times unmistakably autobiographical. Rose is a founding member of Experimental/Electronic/Ambient duo Built for the Sea, signed to Tom Morello & Ryan Harvey’s record label Firebrand Records whose aims are sharply focused on social justice.

Laura Benitez and the Heartache + Laura T. Lewis Trio

Laura Benitez and the Heartache use the three chord tools of country music to tell the simple, unvarnished truth about love, too much whiskey, and the call of the road. Raised under the northern fog banks of the San Francisco Bay on a heavy dose of country, folk, and blues from old clement street, Laura T. Lewis Trio stitches these influences together for a sound of their own.

Sunday, October 23rd | Matinee. Doors at 1:00pm Show 1:45-4:00pm – MUSIC

An Afternoon With Mae Powell and Octomutt/Drizzoletto

Mae Powell’s music is a celebration of life and friendship and love as well as an homage to past-selves. Octomutt is Ashley Adams and Ted Savarese, with music described as angular, ephemeral, reflecting the hills and terrain of San Francisco.

Xanthe Alexis & ZIVA

Xanthe Alexis has devoted her life to healing others as a trauma therapist and acclaimed indie artist. Her latest record pairs soaring melodies with lush, hypnotic soundscapes as it grapples with anxiety and strength, worry and comfort, heartbreak and hope. ZIVA spent her early years exploring the classical side of music playing the cello, taking classical voice lessons and singing in choirs. In her teens she switched things up, took on the saxophone followed by piano and was the front woman for a couple of funk bands back in her homeland of Israel where she studied vocal jazz at The Jerusalem Music & Dance Academy.

Casey Neill (PDX)

The music of Casey Neill combines high energy rock rave-ups and haunting lush acoustic reveries built around melodic narrative songwriting. Tonight is a solo showcase with Casey and he will be performing 2 sets of songs and stories spanning his career. This includes his years as leader of The Norway Rats (feat. members of The Decemberists), his time as a member of Minus 5 with Peter Buck from REM, his adventures performing at Newport Folk Fest, his international project with Japanese folk artists, and much more. He’s a great songwriter and storyteller and all around great guy.

TLC Song Service w/ Parson Jones, Erin Sky, Steve Shirrell

Every third Thursday The Lost Church Santa Rosa features three songwriters sharing the spotlight with insights into the craft of the song from inspiration to final form.

Parson Jones is the project of Northern California multi-instrumentalist/producer/singer Kerry Conlan. Kerry describes the project as nostalgic indie soul, heavily influenced and inspired by the likes of Curtis Mayfield and Motown from the past, and Son Little, Khruangbin and Gnarls Barkley from the present. Erin Sky mixes ethereal vocals with dreamy instrumentation to create a sound that wraps around you as you listen. Her mix of instruments, ranging from guitar, to saxophone, to piano, to synthesized sounds, to a looping pedal, help to create a playground for music to thrive. Steve Shirrell’s closest brush with “fame” was having The U.N. Shuffle aired by Dr. Demento in 1985 and a song featured on KRCB’s Connections 5 CD. His most consistent work has been supporting the Sonoma County music scene through his four decades at Stanroy Music Center.

Burnside, featuring Mama Crow

Igniting dance parties across the North Bay and beyond, Burnside blends funk, rock, and soul to bring good people together. From smooth and sultry to rock-your-socks-off, they invite you on an intoxicating musical journey of original tunes, channeling everything from Cake to James Brown to Amy Winehouse. Born Carmen Marie Gutierrez, Mama Crow is a musical messenger and modern witch that caws it as she sees it. Her music exhibits her love of multi-genre sound from 808 to acoustic folk and displays her personal mythos through lyrical storytelling.

The Spindles with Stevie Cornell

A staple of the Sonoma County music scene since their inception in 2001, The Spindles have wooed generations of audiences with their resplendent Second-Wave Americana and Chamber-Rock favorites. Stevie Cornell is a Santa Rosa based singer songwriter who started his musical career in the vibrant East Bay punk scene of the late 70s. He then went on to co-found the popular SF Americana group, The Movie Stars, and retro country band Red Meat before taking a hiatus to raise a son in deepest Vermont. His songs are short, sharp and catchy, with hummable melodies and well turned lyrics.

NATHAN & JESSIE with Aviva Le Fey

NATHAN & JESSIE write music that reflects the cultural, emotional, and inspirational images of their life experience and are rooted in the spirit of jazz, improvisation, storytelling, language, and humor. Aviva Le Fey sings heart songs with a tone and cadence that conjures both the vintage pop of the fifties and the dark, dreamy sounds you might hear coming from that haunted backwoods bar in 1990s Twin Peaks, Washington.

Farewell to Lost Church Free Radio

We’re grateful to all of you who listened to, contributed to, and supported our fledgling radio station. It was a long time dream of ours and we hope to bring it back some day.

The sad reality is that we have run out of funding for it.

Re-opening our San Francisco Theater and growing our Santa Rosa Theater is very costly and we need to focus all of our efforts on keeping these stages alive and making them thrive for the artists, our community, and all of us who love and rely on them.

We are up for the challenge and know that you’re right there with us. Thanks for all of your donations, for attending shows, and for spreading the good word about The Lost Church.

It’s farewell for now to Lost Church Free Radio, but together we have a long road ahead for live performance at our theaters.
